It is possible to discount entire categories at once. Unlike the Specials function which sets special prices one at a time, the special categories option allows you to discount products as a batch.
1. To set items as specials, navigate to "Special Categories" under "Catalog" in the backend of your site.
2. On the next page, select "new category".
3. This button will take you to a page where you enter information about the category you will be setting on special.
The first drop-down field requires you to select the category to be discounted. The "Special Price" field is where you enter the percentage that you want to deduct from the original prices of every product within this category.
The "Expiry Date" field can be set to automatically end the discount on a particular date. If no date is set, the discont remains until you return to your special categories page in the backend to turn it off.
4. Click "insert" to complete the process.
5. To check products on special, or to discontinue specials, return to your specials by navigating to "Special Categories" under "Catalog" in the backend of your site.
6. You can deactivate a special price by clicking its red (off) status button as shown on the top category in the example picture. Specail prices can also be permanently deleted by clicking "delete" after selecting a category. This does not delete the category. It only deletes record of its special price.
